In the Midst. What does that mean? According to the dictionary, it means to be “in the middle of”, to be central, to exist at the crux. Here at In the Midst Ministries, we believe the same. We believe that God is in the midst of our everyday lives. He exists in our sorrow and our joy, in times of depression and times of celebration. In turn, we, as believers, are in the midst of God’s presence as well. We wonder, what would it look like if every believer walked in a manner worthy of their calling? What would it look like if every woman of God was not only in the midst of God’s presence, but acknowledged God in the midst of her life?
We believe that the study and understanding of God’s word is where the beauty of being in the middle of God’s plan unfolds. God has called us to the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20) and He has equipped us with the tools of teaching and application to fulfill that mission. In the Midst Ministries exists to study the word not just for information, but for transformation.
God has given In the Midst a calling and provided us with the tools to share in the understanding and application of God’s Word with our community. Currently, we are doing this through Renewal Weekends where women can share in a transformational bible study with practical, spiritual equipping. So what does in the midst mean to you? Join us on our journey and discover your “in the midst”.
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26; John 1:1; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19)
We believe that all scripture is inspired by God. We rely on the Word for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness. The original manuscripts are true and without error in all that they declare and are, therefore, the supreme and final authority for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16)
We believe that each person is born with a sinful nature. Each person is in need of a Savior for we all fall short. Our deserved penalty for sin is a physical and spiritual death, but we have the hope of an eternal life in Christ. (Romans 3:23; 6:23)
We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and was both God and man. He came into the world to save sinners and He provided salvation from eternal separation from God through His voluntary, substitutionary death and physical resurrection which is available to all who accept this gift of salvation by faith. (Matthew 1:18; Philippian 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 1:15; Roman 5:10; 10:9-10, 13)
We believe that salvation cannot be earned by good works; but rather is a gift from God. He crafted us in His workmanship so that we could accept his gift. (Ephesians 2:9-10)
We believe that if we confess our sins, Christ, in His faithful and forgiving nature, will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
We believe that all who receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are promised an inheritance in His kingdom and Christ dwells within all believers. The Spirit will hold you until the Day of Redemption. (Ephesians 1:14-14, 4:30)
We believe our Lord Jesus Christ will return one day in power and victory. (Revelations 19:11-16)
We believe that Christians should share in the unity of the Spirit and a bond of peace because we share one Spirit, one Lord and one God and Father who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6)
We believe in the calling of all believers to a personal study of the Word, sharing the good news of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and encouraging one another in obedience to God’s Word. (2 Timothy 2:15; Matthew 28:19-20)
“This ministry is very fulfilling as I feel like I am finally doing exactly what I was created to do.”
A Missouri native, Mendi Behnen is the founder and main keynote speaker of In the Midst Ministries. She married her high school sweetheart, Mitch, and is the mother of two children and two sweet grandchildren. Mendi was blessed to grow up in a Christian home and a Bible-teaching church where her love for God began. Even in the midst of a faith-filled home, she still managed to make her fair share of mistakes and poor choices. Mendi hit a crossroad where she was challenged to explain why she believed what she believed; she realized that her belief was simply based on what she had been taught, but that was not enough. She began to dig into God’s Word to discover the truth of it for herself. As God revealed Himself to her through His Word, she chose by faith not only to believe all that God said, but also to be deliberate about living according to His Word.
Mendi was once asked to fill in as a teacher for a church class. She agreed to do so until a “real teacher” could be found. Fourteen years later, she is still teaching that class. She now realizes that though she had not recognized that God had gifted her with the ability to teach, this is, in fact, her true calling from the Lord. She believes that through her study of the Word, she gains an understanding that is meant to be shared, and she is inspired by seeing others grow in a realationship with Christ. In the Midst is simply God’s plan for Mendi, eight years in the making, now coming to fruition. This ministry is an act of obedience to bring glory to God. Mendi seeks to encourage others to find the beauty of an authentic relationship with God and to be transformed by the truth of His Word.
In the Midst began as a group of 20 ladies in a lake house digging into the word together. Through God’s grace and provision, it has grown to weekend retreats for women in all walks of life to get away from life’s responsibilities and move into a time of rest and renewal through sharing in the teachings of Christ.
