Baggage

Have you done any flying lately? It’s certainly not what it used to be. Remember when every passenger could check two bags at no charge? I took a trip to Chicago back in those “good ol’ days” with a group of friends. One individual, who will remain unnamed, thought we should take the L from the airport to the hotel for the “experience”. Riding the L was an experience, to be sure, and so was dragging all of our baggage the ten blocks from the L station to the hotel! Ten blocks doesn’t seem that far when you are looking at it on a map at the L station, but it is quite another story when you are walking it in dress shoes with all of your baggage in tow. The farther you drag all that baggage, the heavier it becomes, and the less you enjoy the trip.

Life can be that way for us women. We tend to carry way too much baggage as we travel through life. It weighs us down, drains us, and tends to steal our joy. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I can choose to leave all that excess baggage behind and enjoy my walk with Jesus the rest of the way. When I cry out to Jesus, He will help me to release the baggage that weighs me down and quicken my steps to move forward with Him in the abundant life that He has planned for me!

“… But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13-14

How much longer will you carry your baggage? Are you ready to give it over to Jesus?
