Generations of Love: Alpha to Omega

By Jannette Weaver

What is a blog?  When Mendi asked me to write a blog I thought, “Hmmmm.  Well.  Where do I start?” Webster’s dictionary definition includes words such as personal reflection, comments, hyperlinks, videos, experiences, observations, and opinions.  Then I’m thinking, “This sounds a lot like Facebook!!!”  So, piece of cake, right?   Not so much.

I find myself trying to write my first blog during the same weekend we are having a 95th birthday party for my sweet Granny.  Naturally many memories are coming to mind and more are being made.  In looking through some pics, this recent one has such a special place in my heart because of the sentiment being demonstrated—love.  Granny has had Sunday dinner every week for as long as I can remember.  Nowadays Granny makes sure she has put on the potatoes and then rests on the couch until the rest of it is ready.  When it is ready the youngest among us has decided she needs to help Granny to the table.  She has watched others help Granny and decided she needs to help her too.  While Granny knows this little hand will likely not provide her the physical support she needs, she returns the love by holding onto it.  And while this picture warms my heart because of the family involved, it is also a picture of love demonstrated—both directions.  1 Corinthians 13:13 tells us, “But the greatest of these is love.”  God demonstrated His agape love for us by the sacrificial giving of His Son on a cross.  Even though it may seem His hand won’t support you, step out in faith and return His love and hold onto it.
