Hungry

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

I have a sweet 18 month old little girl – she is simply a delight! Most of the time….as long as she is not hungry.  I mean, this sweet baby girl just about cannot handle it.  You’ve seen it…the toddler meltdown, the HANGRY.  Give me food and give me food now so that no one gets hurt.  She cannot be dissuaded. Her pursuit of sustenance is relentless.  She also cannot be pacified. I have tried, believe me.  A small snack here, a nibble there.  Nope.  No way.  This girl wants one thing and one thing only – dinner.  There is no amount of cracker or cheese stick that will distract her from the goal. Dinner.

I love her passionate little personality, her drive to acquire what she feels like she simply cannot live without.

And what a perfect example we see here of what God longs to see in us, what blesses us most…Matthew 5:6 tells us “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

To hunger and thirst for righteousness….this is not passive or casual. This is intense, desperate hunger.

How often we approach worship or bible study with casual indifference…and leave missing the depth of blessing that God intended.

How often we waste our moments on what leaves us wanting and wonder why God seems so far away.

Oh Lord! May our hunger be desperate and our delight be in You because You are the only one who can satisfy.
