How do you walk your day? Stop. Take one minute. Just one minute. Can you take one minute in silence and think clearly on one thing for just a single minute? Or are you like me and you think of at least half a dozen. You start out thinking about Point A and within sixty seconds you’ve been to Point B by way of Points R, S, T, L, N and E. You know, the given letters in Wheel of Fortune!! Why is it so hard to rest our thoughts or even just focus our thoughts for such a short period of time? Could I venture to say it might be fear or pride?
Recently I have heard several sermons and read several books that appear to me to have a common theme – too many choices!! So many things to do. What if I choose the wrong thing? What if I make a mistake? What if I fail? What if I zag right and should have zagged left? Or what if I shouldn’t have zagged at all and should have jumped? Or what if I should have stood still. What if. What if. What if. Could be some of the devil’s most effective handiwork to keep us in a state of chaos and struggle and frustration, i.e. ineffective, joy-less and peace-less.
Our God is not a what if God. He is an I Am God. “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11—Jannette’s memorized version.
I would like to challenge you with a few, see again, not just one, but several to choose from, thoughts to consider:
- Is God hiding from me this day what He would ask of me or what He has for me? NO
- Has God left me alone to figure out what this day should encompass? NO
- Is God an unforgiving Father who will hold it against me if I make a wrong choice? NO
- Am I fearful of the consequences of choosing wrong?
- Am I fearful of what people will think if I choose wrong?
If we could get past these fears and pride “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice!” (apparently Paul felt he needed to repeat this). “Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:4-9 NASB
- Rejoice IN the Lord.
- Let your gentle spirit be a witness.
- The Lord is near.
- Don’t be anxious.
- Be prayerful and thankful and ask God.
- God’s incomprehensible peace will guard your heart and mind.
- Think on God’s thoughts, i.e. have His mind and perspective.
- Practice what He has taught you and the God of peace will be with you.
Look at the picture. Do you walk your day as if this is the reality of your day? Cast your fear and pride aside. Walk forward in confidence in your day, in step with the Lord, guiding you with His right hand. Lean in. Listen closely. Trust completely. And obey quickly. If you mishear or make a mistake just admit it; He is faithful and just to forgive and redirect.
